Having working dogs that like to entertain themselves means I spend a lot of time on dog damage repair. I do not get excited when they damage something because it is a better than having them confined all of the time.
Drain Lines Damaged
Back in April of 2022, I did a project along the west side of the property to route some drain lines along the fence. In particular, there were two lines that extended well down the hill. The first line was the pool waste line which can see some pretty high volume when I clean the pool. The other is a tile line from on top of the retaining wall by the pool. Typically, there is not much water in this line unless there is an exceptionally heavy rain. It it important though because I do not want water pooling at the top of that tall retaining wall.
Late last summer (2023), I was working at repairing some lawn edging that they had torn up when I heard a noise. When I investigated, I discovered Stella playing tug of war with the tile line. She had pulled out twenty feet of drain line and was well on her way to pulling out more. I chased her off. I did not have time to deal with it then, so they continued to play with it over the next few months, causing more damage.
Simple Repair
To do a repair I had the option to replace the section of the section of the line that was damaged or cut it off and connect it to the remaining drain line.
I choose the latter option. It was fairly simple to expose both lines, cut off the damaged section and then use a ‘Y’ connection to connect them.
After making the connection I backfilled the hole. Long term, I need to add more fill over the lines but for now the dog damage repair is completed.
