9/21-22 I spent time over two days mowing prairie for a friend near Northfield. This particular field is in CRP and either had to be burned or mowed by September 30th.
He had planned to burn it in the spring but it was too wet. By the time it was dry enough, birds were already nesting. He hoped it would be dry enough to burn in the fall, but the grass is still too green. So I volunteered to help mow it.
He and his daughter started mowing. I came out and spent about 8 hours mowing and we finished the field. The landowner was happy that it was done well before the deadline.
Here is a picture from the drivers seat of the tractor. To the right has been mowed. Ahead and to the left is waiting to be mowed.
