2025 Pheasant Hunting – Week 2

This is the week 2 recap of the 2025 pheasant hunting season. This week we did a one day local hunt in Minnesota and then I did a 4 day hunt in South Dakota. The South Dakota hunt will be covered in a separate blog post.

October 20th - Minnesota

On this day we tried two new areas. The first was a Waterfowl Production Area (WPA) that looked good when I scouted it the week before. The cover was thick and varied between prairie and cattails. We were hunting with Willow because Stella was still on injured reserve due to her surgery. We did a big loop through the field and saw one hen. I would consider hunting there again.

From there we traveled north and tried a Walk-In Area (WIA). It was mixed prairie and cattails, although the prairie ground was not as thick. We saw 6 hens in this field. I think that this field has future potential.

Video

The video this week is pretty short. It includes a clip of Willow pointing a bird in cattails. In fact, you won’t even see Willow but you will see the bird.

Lessons Learned

I have been trying to remember to wear my electronic hearing protection (Wild Ear). But I forgot to put them on and didn’t realize it until the truck was all locked up. In the future, I will put the case on the drivers seat so I at least hang them around my neck before I even drive to the field.

Summary

This was the week 2 recap of Minnesota trips. No roosters seen but the cover looks good.
