Since we bought the house, the deck has always been a concern. Many of the deck boards were rotted and the railings were falling apart. It was time to start the deck demolition in preparation for the rebuild.
History
In 2019, I replaced some deck boards and painted the deck. This was just a stop gap.
In 2021, we wanted to repair the deck but lumber prices were through the roof due to COVID. So we put it off one more year.
In 2022, we decided that if we were going to do it, we needed to get it done. We purchased the materials and then waited for the weather to warm up enough to get started. As luck would have it, spring was cold and wet so we weren’t able to start until May.
Execution
The first phase was demolition. I had to remove the old railings, east deck stairs and then the deck boards.
The following photo gallery has the before and during pictures. New pictures will be added until the demo is completed.

Summary
With the deck demolition completed it was time to start rebuilding. The first step was to add beef up the structure and add footings.
