Since I have been doing a lot of wood working it made sense to determine if I could make Christmas presents. It turns out that my daughter and her family moved to a new house that sits on 5 acres adjacent to a pond. They wanted a couple wood duck houses.
I have made wood houses before for a friend. I started with some basic plans but modified them to make them easier to maintain. I also over build them using construction adhesive and deck screws.
The build started with cutting down the cedar 1 x 10s into the primary parts. Then I started the assembly by putting the sides on the backs followed by the roof. Next comes the bottoms and the front door.
The front doors are hinged at the top and will feature a hole and cuts on the inside that the chicks use to climb out.

07/14/25 Update: I wrote a book about building wood duck houses.
