It was my intention to post weekly updates on the fishing season but that obviously has not happened. This is the weeks 2-7 fishing recap.
I started the season with the intention of getting out a couple times every week. That has not been possible for a variety of reasons including weather, schedules and life in general.
Week 3
I was able to get out for a late afternoon trip to a lake about 40 minutes away. I arrived about 3 PM and there was one other trailer in the parking lot.
I found some weeds and started fishing in about 7′ of water. There was quite a bit of wind which made it challenging. I did catch one nice blue gill, which I released.

After that I tried trolling a spinner and did get a couple of hookups with a fish that did a few head shakes and then got off.
As it got later in the day the lake was getting a lot busier. So I pulled out at about 6 PM. When I left, the parking lot was full and they were parking out on the road.
Week 4
I went out once this week, with Mike. We went to the same lake that I fished in week 3. We arrived in the morning and there were a couple of other boats on the lake. The water was so high that shore end of the dock was under water. The wind was really blowing, which made things more challenging.
I had intended to fish the east shore but the wind was out of the west and it was just too choppy. So we fished along the west shore, somewhat protected from the wind. We ended up catching and releasing a bunch of blue gills and sun fish or varying sizes.

Week 5
During this week, Mike and I traveled up to the Brainard Lakes area and fished for 4 days. We targeted one lake that we have done well at in previous trips.
We had a good trip. Instead of the usual bigger blue gills and sun fish we have caught in the past, we were catching some keeper perch and an occasional walleye. They weren’t huge but they were bigger than previous trips.

On all but the last day we dealt with strong winds. We either trolled or drifted. In addition to the perch, we also caught quite a few small northerns and an occasional bass.

We would launch the boat in the morning, fish for a few hours, pull the boat and go back to the house for lunch. Later in the afternoon, we would go out again until evening.
Almost every trip, we would catch a couple of keeper perch.

On our last day, the lake was dead calm. It took quite a while to find fish. When we did it was mostly bass and blue gills.

Summary
As you can see from the weeks 2-7 fishing recap, I have been out a few times and we have caught a few fish. Over the last couple of weeks the rain has been a real factor. If it isn’t raining I have been doing yard work. Plus, with all of the flooding we are somewhat limited where we can go.
