Update on nesting mallard: Nest Abandoned.
We came to the conclusion that the hen had abandoned the nest when we did not see her or any signs that she had been back, for over a week. Given the activity around the front of the garage it really is not surprising that she did not feel safe.
According to the “Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation” mallards will abandon a nest for a variety of reasons and then lay a new clutch somewhere else. Hopefully, that is what this mallard did.
