This post concerns a fencing project that came about because of the repeated efforts of my younger German Shorthair Pointer (GSP) to have some fun.
Why isn't the AC working?
It was really hot upstairs and that was not good. The unit had just been checked out and was working fine but now, on one of the warmest nights of the summer the bedroom temperature was over 80.
So, I started to troubleshoot and after almost an hour I discovered that the wiring harness to the compressor was partially disconnected. I was not sure how that happened but at 12:30 AM it did not really matter. I shut down the power, figured out what needed to repaired and reconnected the broken wires. After double checking everything, I reconnected the power and got the AC working again.
About a week later, I noticed that the upstairs was way too warm, again. So I checked the compressor again. I discovered that the wiring harness was disconnected again. This time I had a pretty good idea that it had been Willow’d, our younger GSP. She likes to pull on wires, ropes, etc and had totally ripped the wires out this time. I repaired things again. Just another instance of a dog finding something to do that is not really constructive.
The Fix
Willow is very persistent. Given the opportunity she would pull the harness off again. The solution was to keep her away from the equipment. So, I had a fencing project to do. The following picture is before.
Using some leftover cedar, I built a simple fence. It is just bolted together and sets in place. That way I can easily remove it when the units need to be serviced. The completed fence looks like this.
I sealed it using the same sealer that I used on the fence protecting the retaining wall.
No more AC issues.
