Our normal morning routine is I feed the dogs, they go outside for a little while then come in and nap until we go for our walk. Today it was different. I fed them and they went outside but didn’t come back in, for a long time. That usually isn’t good. I finally whistled for them so we could go on our walk. They both came in with muddy paws. Not a good sign. Little did I know that they had been busy wrecking a drainpipe.
After our walk, I let them into the back yard and Willow immediately headed down the hill with an obvious destination in mind. So I walked down the hill, looking for the latest canine destruction. I noticed a hole in the yard by the big shed but no dog. So I looked around some more and then saw a flash of white in the Hosta bed.
Upon closer inspection, I found them both milling around about 20 feet of PVC pipe that used to be buried but was now exposed. There is a drain basin above the stairs to the sport court that connects to this pipe. Normally the pipe is buried but now it was exposed.
I chased them away from the pipe, took a picture and went back up to the house. Again, no dogs napping so I walked down the hill and caught Willow in the act of chewing on the pipe. This time I sprayed her with a hose. Over the next hour we played cat-n-mouse with her sneaking down to the pipe and me chasing her off.
After a delivery, I took the tractor down and buried the pipe with dirt and flagstones. From experience I know that they can move even the biggest flagstones but they usually give up pretty quickly.
The pictures show the before and after of Dogs Wrecking Drainpipe.
