2023 Finishing the Shed

This post covers Finishing the Shed. It took a while and I greatly appreciate the help from Mike and Cary. The final phase had lots of relatively small tasks that I could handle myself.

Caulking and Painting

The first task was to caulk and then paint the shed. After the caulk dried I followed up with a good coat of primer for any exposed wood. The siding itself was pre-primed so that saved a lot of time. After the primer I put on two coats of paint.

Concrete by Doors

After driving the ATV and lawn tractor in an out a few times it was apparent that I needed concrete by the doors. I was planning to do that  using a method called dry pour in which the dry concrete in placed in forms and then wet in place. It eliminates the need to mix the concrete with water before putting into place. Similar to a wet pour, you first put forms in place. I also added a pipe under the slab to allow water from the uphill side to drain under the slab. Once the form was done I dumped in the dry concrete and started to smooth it into place. Unfortunately, a popup shower call through before I was ready and got the concrete wet. So, I didn’t get the smooth finish I was looking for. I did the other door a couple days later. While I got a better result it still wasn’t as good as I had hoped. In the end, both doors now have concrete slabs in place.

Organization

The next step was to organize the inside. I moved a workbench from the big shed and put pegboard above it. I added ceiling storage for some long tools as well as holders on the wall for my commonly used garden tools. Now the stuff I use on a regular basis is more conveniently located.

Power

The final step was to install the solar panels. The big panel in the picture powers a solar battery charger for the ATV. The two smaller panels power security lights above each door and the alarm system.

Summary

With the Finishing of the Shed, it is time to focus on other priorities. I have moved pretty much everything into it that was planning on, my tractor is now in the big shed and the boat is in the garage ready for use.
