We recently had a storm blow through with very strong winds from the east. The rain was pretty much horizontal due to the wind. As a result, we experienced storm damage including losing a big limb from a box elder and another from a Black Cherry.
The box elder limb just missed the new shed by about 6 feet. Other than some torn up sod and a big mess there was no other damage. Cleanup took several days because of the heat and the tangled mess . I started by cutting branches down to a size that would go through my chipper.
The Black Cherry limb came down on the west side fence that I replaced a couple years ago. It popped out a top rail and put a slight bend in it. Most of the branch ended up in my neighbor’s yard. With their permission, I took my ATV down there with a chain saw and loppers. I cut off everything that was on their side and tossed it back into my yard. I then returned to my side of the fence and hauled out the bigger chunks and the brush for chipping.
The biggest hassle was just the clean up of the storm damage. I used a chain saw to cut up the large branches and the chipper for the smaller branches.
I cut the larger branches into firewood size and used the tractor to haul it to a neighbor about a block over. In the end it was just a bunch of work that I wasn’t planning on.
