2023 Shed Doors

After getting the walls and trusses up (Construction Part 2), one of the next steps was to mount the sliding barn doors. I decided on sliding doors because the slope of the ground around where the doors need to be positioned would prevent a regular swinging door from opening.

I calculated the size of the doors and built them ahead of time (Construction Part 1). Now that the walls were up I could start the process to hang the doors. I attached the sliding door hardware to a door. The next step was to install the track that they slide on. Using the recommended mounting height I soon discovered that I had calculated wrong. My pre-built doors were too tall for my walls.

Too tall is better than too short. So my plan was to shorten the doors and then mount the hardware. To get started I moved the doors up to the garage using the tractor. Next, I measured the new door height and then cut off the excess wood. I was able to salvage some of the supporting boards so that I could rebuild the door bottoms. A little trim and the door looks like it did before it was shortened.

Next, I installed the hardware. The brackets are bolted onto the door. I didn’t want the bolt heads protruding from the back so I countersunk holes on the backside. I was then able to bolt everything into place.

Once both doors were done, I used the tractor to move them back to the sport court.

There are a few pictures of work in progress as well as a time lapse video.
